Coronado Island

Coronado is home to about 26,000 people. It is connected to San Diego by the San Diego-Coronado Bay Bridge, with its distinctive curved span. Coronado is surrounded by water -- the Pacific Ocean, Glorietta and San Diego bays and is home to North Island Naval Air Station and the Naval Amphibious Base.

Swim, surf, sail, fish, bike, skate, golf, or play tennis - Coronado is definitely the place to be if you love the outdoors. The city's Central, North and Silver Strand beaches are ideal for whatever water-related activity you can think of -- there's even Dog Beach, where your pet can frolic with you.

Glorious views of downtown San Diego can be had from Ferry Landing Marketplace, a bayside complex comprised of shops and restaurants and a great starting point for exploring the island. Downtown Coronado is often described as charming and it doesn't disappoint. Its many cafes and restaurants offer outdoor dining, ideal for people watching, and unique shops filled with wonderful wares to take home.

Right in the heart of downtown, is the Visitor Center. Located in the Museum of History and Art building at 1100 Orange Avenue, it should be the first stop for any visitor to the island. Here, there are maps, discount tickets, brochures, directions, and other helpful information. To complete the experience, guests are encouraged to visit the Museum of History and Art, with its four galleries solely dedicated to the rich history of Coronado. Here you can take an interactive, one-of-a-kind look at Coronado's past and present, some of its famous residents and special exhibits with ties to Coronado.

The great lady, the Hotel Del Coronado, holds court at the south end of the city. The Del, as it is lovingly known, is a National Historic Landmark dating back to 1888. The Hotel has counted some of the world's icons, including Marilyn Monroe and Frank Sinatra as well as every sitting President since Lyndon Johnson, as guests. With its distinctive red turrets and glamorous aura, the Hotel continues to attract tourists from around the world.

Families of any configuration will find Coronado a gracious hostess, offering the best in accommodations, panoramic views of San Diego and beyond, delicious food, abundant entertainment choices and spectacular sunsets at no extra charge.
